1998 marked the end of the line for air cooled 911’s, however the 911, now liquid cooled, is still alive and well, proven by the fact that the legendary performance cars still have a strong presence in car enthusiast circles. This 911 in particular is finished in a stunning and special color combination. Many eagle-eyed Porsche fans may be reminded of the Boxster concept car, and the color scheme used, when taking a closer look at this 911. The car you see here is an extremely well cared for, 1998 Porsche 911 Carrera 2S, finished in Polar Silver over a Boxster Red leather interior, and showing approximately 44,690 miles on the mechanical odometer.
The lines of the 993 Generation 911 cars like this one gave the car softer, muscular lines than previous generation 911’s. The lines of this car are further improved by the optional factory aero kit, which gives the car the look of the contemporary Turbo 911. A rear spoiler, “Turbo Twist” wheels, larger front bumper valance, and the unmistakable rear spoiler. As your eye is drawn over the lines of this special car, it is clear that the car has been well cared for, and used sparingly. The metallic paint is in beautiful condition with gloss and depth, and accentuates the lines of this svelte car. Boasting similar muscular lines as the body of the car, the hollow-spoke Turbo Twist wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.
The color combination of this car is very reminiscent of the Porsche Boxster concept car which was first introduced at the Detroit Auto Show in January of 1993. In the case of concept car vs. production car, this is a car you can own. The interior of this particular car is actually called “Boxster Red Special Leather”. The red leather interior provides a striking contrast to the Polar Silver exterior which is sure to impress Porsche-files as well as those who are fans of good design. The interior, like the exterior, has been extremely well cared for. It features the familiar 5 gauges fronting the dashboard, which is leather wrapped, as are the door panels, center console, and parking brake. The boxy dashboard features a Porsche AM/FM/CD stereo, a small climate control panel, the familiar fog light and rear defrost knobs, and a contrasting black strip which helps tie in the black four spoke steering wheel. The factory spare tire, jack, tool kit and inflation kit can be found under the bonnet of the car, and are in like new condition.
At the rear of the car is a 3.6 Liter flat-6 engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The engine bay is tidy and has clearly been well maintained, which is also evidenced by the service records which accompany the car. We should also mention that the original window sticker is still with the car, and shows not only the options, but also that the price the car sold for was just a tick over $83k.
This special Porsche may have the color scheme of the early Boxster concept car, but this is the older sibling to the Boxster, the 911, which has upheld the Porsche heritage over the decades. This 911 in particular has been well cared for, and documented. This is a car that will catch the eye of Porsche fans, car enthusiasts, and those who appreciate good design alike. This is a car that you can be proud to own, and one that is quite unique among other 993 Generation 911’s thanks to the stunning color scheme.
